A brief introduction to bone plates

Bone plate is a perforated plate-shaped medical device used for internal fixation of fractures in orthopedic surgery, which forms a stable connection with the bone through screws to promote healing. Its development has gone through iterative processes from limited contact dynamic compression plate (LC-DCP) to locking compression plate (LCP), gradually reducing interference with periosteal blood flow. The materials mainly use metals such as stainless steel and titanium alloys, and in recent years, absorbable biomaterials have also been applied to low load areas. According to their functions, they can be divided into two types: ordinary steel plates and locking steel plates, with multiple fixing modes such as neutralization, bridging, and support. A typical design includes a shaft, head, and extension, which achieve three-dimensional fixation of the fracture site through a porous structure.
